Ok…if you are a fellow blogger you’ll totally understand what I’m about to say. I almost NEVER review a product or service from an unsolicited marketer/publicist/PR rep that sends me a templated email telling me how much they love my blog and then asks me to write a post about how great their product or service is.
First off, I would never review a product or service that I didn’t try, use myself or test. So, if you have some super awesome product then MAYBE I’ll blog about it if you send me a sample so I can see, feel, touch, taste, experience, etc. And if you are in the service industry like a hotel that is trying to promote honeymoons at the very least offer me a free room upgrade and a cocktail welcome or better yet a free night stay!
Today might be my first real review of a product that came across my inbox. It doesn’t hurt that the product is an adult beverage that tastes like cake!! Pearl Vodka recently released their Wedding Cake Vodka. Not gonna lie – at first I was a total skeptic thinking it would taste very artifical and sugary. I first tried it straight out of the bottle and to my surprise it was quite tasty. More importantly it actually did taste like cake. I could imagine this being a very fun novelty favor at a wedding. It could be served with your wedding cake or if you aren’t the wedding cake kind of gal and want to serve pies or other desserts this would be a way to drink your cake with your dessert!

Now…where things went a little sideways was when I decided I’d try to come up with some fun cocktails made with wedding cake vodka. Pearl had a lot of recipes on their site but I didn’t have all the fixings so I improvised a bit.
The first – 1 part wedding cake vodka, 1 part rum, 1 part 1/2 and 1/2. I thought this might be like some kind of white russian ish drink. No…not quite. Don’t try that one at home.

The next – 1 part wedding cake vodka, 1 part chamboard. I thought maybe a Raspberry Wedding Cake? Wrong. This one was much better than the other one but still didn’t do it for me.
I would have liked to try it with just some club soda – I think this would have been the magic combo but I ran out. Darn it – I’ll just have to pick up a bottle and experiment some more!
Bottom line – I think the mini Pearl Wedding Cake vodka bottles would make a really unique and fun novelty favor or a supplement to your dessert table. I think more people would appreciate a mini bottle of booze than pastel almonds or even something you’d worked hard to make that they just end up leaving behind. My thoughts – I still love wedding cake so I’d serve this alongside – straight up and chilled!
