Friday Favs: Local Gorge Wedding Features

I’ve been noticing lots of local weddings featured lately on a lot of national wedding blogs and publications.  It’s good to see the Gorge getting some wedding love since it is the most beautiful spot to get married after all!

This Mt. Hood National Forest wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty.  Reception was held at the Panoroma Lodge just outside of Hood River off Hwy 35 – a great spot for an intimate wedding.

This next wedding featured on Style Me Pretty features some of our favorite Gorge vendors – The Historic Balch Hotel, Lucy’s Informal Flowers and Cork & Bottle Catering.

Another venue we love is the Crag Rat Hut – understated but a blank canvas for someone with wedding vision and a killer view! We’re glad to see them featured on a Practical Wedding blog.

The always beautiful Mt. Hood Organic Farms never goes too long without being featured somewhere!  Here they were on Style Me Pretty.

We’ve never heard of this next wedding venue – Berry City Farms but looks like one we should know about. This rustic wedding featured on the Knot is adorable!

Hitched in the Hood 2013 Year-in-Review

2013 was quite a year! We are blessed to have completed 12 amazing weddings, some great editorial/styled photo shoots and took home the “Best New Vendor” award (even though we aren’t really so new!) with Oregon Bride Magazine!

We were so busy this summer we really didn’t get a chance to recap all of the fabulous weddings we worked on so here we go with a photo gallery of our favorites from 2013!

We kicked off the season with Jen & Jenn’s wedding at the Gorge Crest in Underwood, WA.  It was a beautiful, clear and sunny late Spring day in June.  Folks are always scared of getting married in May or June but you never really know what the weather might be like in the Gorge!

In June, we were honored to be invited to the Best of Oregon Bride Awards and were presented the Best New Vendor of the Year (Valley).  This was a huge surprise and we are so thankful to all of our friends, clients, fellow vendors that voted for us.

Next was a quick trip to Daytona Beach, FL for a dear friend’s wedding – I was more a guest than anything but it was fun to help with and be a part of!

July was by far our busiest month and kicked off with a completely gorgeous Trout Lake, WA wedding at the private residence of the groom’s Mom. Another absolutely pristine blue sky day!

We had a blast with Erin & Kevin’s wedding – so much so that it was the highlight of the Hitched in the Hood brand video we did this year.  You can see it here: http://vimeo.com/72858299  {video by: G. Kennedy Creative}

Springhouse Cellars is such a rad venue.  With the help of these San Francisco foodies we crafted a wedding that was equal parts rustic, urban, industrial and completely amazing!  You can see much more from this wedding in the upcoming January edition of Oregon Bride Magazine!

Finishing out our weddings in July was a stunning private orchard wedding in the Hood River Valley.  The bride, Molly is a professional floral designer…it’s no wonder the florals were A-mazing! The photos are breathtaking but unfortunately we don’t have permission to post any on our blog or website but you can find them here on photographer Zoe Lonergan’s blog.

August kicked off with Elyssa & Casey’s wedding at the Gorge Crest Vineyards!  These two busy doctors-to-be had the sweetest, simple but elegant wedding and we were truly blessed to be a part of their day.

We were back at the Gorge Crest the very next weekend for Melissa & Ethan’s day.  I’m not sure how we got so lucky this year with perfect weather days, views and awesome couples but we did!

September was a break in our sunny streak and even though it rained the entire day for Patricia and Kris’ wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes it didn’t put a damper on the love and fun energy of the day!

First off, congratulations on winning “Best Invitations” by Oregon Bride in 2012 and 2013! Can you tell us about yourself and how you got started with Puddle Jumpin’ Cards?

Thank you! I started in 2008, when I was working at at preschool. One of the mothers asked me to design her daughter’s birthday invitations. When I first started, my focus was on children’s stationery (which is where the name comes from!). After I designed my sister’s wedding invitations, the wedding side of my business quickly grew from there!

How would you describe your aesthetic and process?

Much of my inspiration comes from the couple! I love the initial consultation where we talk about their style and dive into all things paper and design. Each invitation is custom, the sky is the limit, and I have so much fun creating something that is a reflection of the couple. The process of design is a little different every time as well. Sometimes I’ll carve a custom block print, paint, draw, or sew!

What are some of your favorite trends you are seeing or working on?

I’m loving all the hand lettering, metallics/foil, and luxe papers. Although Kraft paper has been around for a while, I don’t see the trend going away. There are so many possibilities with Kraft, and I’m perfectly fine with the trend staying put! Another trend that is coming up a lot with the couples I’m working with is creating an element of the invitation suite that their guests (or the couple) can keep, such as a poster or recipe card.

What do you think are important pieces of signage at a wedding?

Picture yourself as a guest a wedding. What signage do you like seeing and think is necessary? Fun signs along the road that direct guests to the venue, bar and menu signs, seating charts, table numbers/names, possibly a sign for an instagram hashtag.

Lastly, what advice do you have for a couple for invitations and save the dates? What is your personal advised timeline for getting these things out to guests?

Book your invitation designer early, know your guest count, order extras, keep postage in mind, and have a wedding website for details like registry, directions, etc. Every website or book will tell you something different, but I personally think 6 months in advance is a good time to send save the dates, and 6-8 weeks in advance for invitations.

Friday Favs: Baby Room

I know this is a wedding blog and I promise not to turn it into a baby blog just b/c I’m pregnant (if I want to I’ll just start another one!) but I just finished our nursery inspiration board and have been shopping around for complimentary items and wanted to share my favorites!

We decided on various shades of teal-y/aqua blues with splashes of gold accents throughout.  We love a woodland/mountain theme and if we had been having a boy would have been rocking the flannel checker board patterns and cuddly woodland creatures.  For girl we decided to add subtle touches like a sheepskin rug and wall hanging and canvases that scream adventure highlighting mountains and oceans. Maybe we’ll have to kick up the woodsy theme with a tomboy toddler room if we get a little tomgirl princess like I think we might!

Drumroll…here it is…what do you think?

8) Shel Silverstein Wall Art  9) Confetti System 10) Life is a Great Adventure Canvas

11) Ocean Print  12) Aden & Anais Azure Beads Pattern 13) Gold Mirror  14) Not all who wander are lost Print 15) Roam Print

The good news is I think Keith and I can do most of this ourselves!  We may use existing photos we have taken in the Mt. Hood National Forest and here in the Gorge, put them on canvases and stencil our favorite copy over them.  We also have an existing mirror we are going to paint gold and a small metal nightstand that we’ll embellish with gold accents.  We have a great piece of wood we might use to stencil our favorite children’s book quote on – I really like the example of Listen to the Mustn’ts!  And we can certainly make our own confetti system in our colors.

A few of my favorite items to bring into the room:

I love these gold dot wall decals from Land of Nod and think we will adorn one wall with them.

Gold Dot Wall Decals

Every since discovering the Aden and Anais brand when shopping for another baby shower I feel in love with their soft bamboo and muslin materials.  Their Azure Beads collection is the perfect color for our teal/aqua room.

Aden and Anais Azure Beads

I think baby room should be all things soft and cuddly!  This authentic lambskin rug (much bigger than the small Ikea example in the inspiration board) will be the perfect center piece for this room.

The 3 month countdown is on and we’ll be nesting through the winter and preparing little Baby D’s room for her arrival.  Have a great weekend!

Friday Fav’s

Happy Friday! We have a light dusting of snow this morning! Always such a welcome surprise to wake up to. It’s really feeling like winter now and the reality of Christmas sneaking up on me this year is kicking in! For our Friday Fav’s today I’ve gathered some of my favorite DIY inspirations from this last week.

First up- this ‘hot chocolate on a stick’! What a fun change from hot chocolate mix in a jar. This would be cute offered on a single plate or whole plates of them on a coffee bar at a winter wedding. A truly simple DIY project, the link even includes the printable labels!

I {still} love the use of wood rounds as table decor, however I have yet to see the use of stone… until now! So gorgeous and natural. I am pleasantly surprised to see that the stones don’t have a “cold” feeling once the foods are placed.

Speaking of the use of wood… these beautiful (and simple!) place card holders look beautiful with white birch of course, but I imagine that brown colored logs (maybe with a colored place card?) would be just as woodsy and natural.

Also on the same link, are these adorable place cards for individual place settings.

I love DIY floral arrangements in my home. In fact I had a good amount of  green stems and leaves left from my last bouquet that just made it into my holiday decor. I am obsessed with using plain twigs and sticks in these arrangements!

That’s it for our Friday Fav’s today! Hope you are staying warm, I’m on to work on some holiday projects!
