Super exciting announcement and a special day!

Today is a very exciting day!  First and foremost, it’s our 2 year wedding anniversary and it has been the most amazing and adventurous trip.  From Florida to Oregon, moving into our fourth place in two years (hopefully our last for a long time) and launching a brand new business together which has been our dream for quite some time.  A huge thanks to my husband for being the kind, calm and gentle soul that you are – you definitely keep me grounded.  Cheers to 1,000 more adventures and for always being my partner in crime. I love you!

And second – a long time coming announcement.  Hitched in the Hood is proud to announce the launch of our new sister company Riverhood Rentals!

Riverhood Rentals will offer all the party, event and specialty rentals you need for your next major event or wedding.  From tents, tables, chairs, dance floors, lighting, linens to all the specialty rentals and decor to make your event extra special.  We are feverishly working behind the scenes to get our site up with our full inventory but in the meantime check out our updates at our Riverhood Rentals Facebook page.  Or contact me at debbie@riverhoodrentals.com or info@riverhoodrentals.com.  We are currently taking reservations for summer 2012!

We can’t wait to service the Hood River and Columbia Gorge wedding and event community and be active small business members in our favorite place on earth!  A huge thanks to everyone that helped us get to this point and for your continued support.

Now you know why I’ve been a little quiet on the blog!  I’m very close to launching the brand new Hitched in the Hood site and the Riverhood Rentals site so I’ll be taking another break as we move our destination to Hitched in the Hood.  But in the meantime we’ve got some great real weddings and vendor spotlights coming your way.

Thank you friends, readers and supporters for sticking with me!

Meet the Intern – introducing Whitney!

When I set out on my search for a Hitched in the Hood intern I found a perfect match in Whitney.  If you all could have read the email she sent me I knew without hesitation we would get along just fine!  Her energy was jumping off the page and I loved that she was a DIY bride and happens to write the real wedding section for the popular DIY Bride site and blog. She’ll be assisting me with all this summer’s weddings and will also be a contributor to the blog.  I’m thrilled to have her on board.
Introducing Whitney…

How can you not love a girl that wears green wedding shoes and purple tulle under that dress!

Hey everyone! I am so excited to be on board with Debbie and Hitched. I’m looking forward to getting more involved with weddings and learning as much as I can.
What calls you to the wedding industry?
All the love. At their core, weddings are about the love between you and your partner and the commitment you’re making to each other. Weddings are emotional by nature, and watching family and friends come together to honor their loved ones as they begin their new life together is beautiful. I’m honored to be a part of that equation.
I’ve found the wedding industry to be full of some of the smartest and most creative people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. Being able to help bring a couple’s wedding dreams to fruition is what keep me fully engaged in this industry, bouquets in one hand and hot glue gun in the other!

A big honor and a swift kick in the pants!

A big thanks once again to Bride Tide for naming Bridalhood blog Top 100 Wedding Blogs of 2012.  We are definitely humbled as we are among really good company and the list is quite an impressive one.  Check out all 100 blogs on the Top 100 – all are unique in their own way and you are sure to stumble upon one you’ve never seen before.

A bigger thank you to my blogger friends and fans – it’s your support that keeps me on the list for these things and keeps me posting.  In fact, I’ve been so busy working behind the scenes lately that I’ve neglected the blog a bit but this gave me a little push to keep it more consistent.  I will be taking a little break while we get ready to launch the new site but we’ll be back after that with a lot more new stuff and exciting announcements!

Remembering Bridalhood blog’s #1 fan

It’s been so long since my last post!  I always miss doing my daily/weekly postings when I take some time off b/c it helps keep me on track, keeps me on my routine.  Routine is what I’m craving now.

My absence has been for good reason.  Two weeks ago my family suffered a great loss.  My dear, one-of-a-kind Uncle Frank passed away quite suddenly and I flew back East to be with my family and celebrate the life of this wonderful man. It was a shock to everyone as he was the poster child of a retiree living out his “golden years.” He was extremely active, running circles around most guys his age – even recently joining the local senior softball league and bragging about being the fastest guy on his team.

A lifelong Cubs fan!

A little bit of country – revisited!

I always love checking out my stats and seeing which posts are the most popular.  This little bit of country wedding by Soul Mates Photo by FAR gets the most views and folks continue to comment on it.  In fact, I needed to revisit this post b/c I never interviewed the bride and I probably should have.  Recently I got a comment from someone asking about the bridesmaids dresses and the bride, Michelle responded.

Sure these bridesmaids dresses are adorable but can you believe they tea stained them and put their own little spin on them?!?!  This was Michelle’s response not to disappoint, but gals, we did it totally living by our roots – we made them! We bought the crochet/cotton dresses from JC Penny’s, stained them with TEA to take them from white to the color they are now then my aunt’s sewed on the trim to form a faux empire waist.”

AND…she also made modifications to her dress to make it just to her liking – I kinda love this girl.  Here is what she had to say about that,  “I got my dress from Elegant Bride in Tacoma, WA. It’s a Pronovias dress that I had altered to take off the cap sleeves, cinch down the topline to make it a sweetheart top and then took out a little of the tulling underneath to make it a lil more fitted. There were 52 buttons down the back and the lace was Spanish lace. it was a great choice. just remember: anything can be altered to make into YOUR perfect dress”
